{"id":929,"date":"2023-03-02T05:56:34","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T05:56:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visainfo.com.au\/?post_type=visaoptions&#038;p=929"},"modified":"2023-03-03T08:32:19","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T08:32:19","slug":"spouse-common-law-partner","status":"publish","type":"visaoptions","link":"https:\/\/visainfo.com.au\/visa-options\/spouse-common-law-partner\/","title":{"rendered":"Spouse\/Common-Law Partner"},"content":{"rendered":"<ol>\n<li><strong>Onshore Spousal\/ Common law Partner Sponsorship\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Spousal Sponsorship\u00a0program is a subclass\u00a0of the Family sponsorship program category, under which a permanent resident of Canada\u00a0may sponsor his or her spouse\/common-law partner for Canadian permanent residence.\u00a0Both the Canadian citizen or permanent resident (also called the \u2018sponsor\u2019) and the foreign national (the \u2018sponsored person\u2019) must be approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC, formerly CIC) in order for the sponsored person to receive a visa.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Onshore Spousal\/Common-Law Partner Sponsorship program allows permanent resident of Canada to sponsor his or her spouse\/common-law partner for permanent resident status if\u00a0both of them are already living together in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>There are two parts to the spousal sponsorship application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Canadian or permanent resident applies\u00a0to sponsor his or her spouse or common-law partner; and<\/li>\n<li>The spouse or common-law partner applies\u00a0for permanent residence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Under the Inland sponsorship category, the foreign national spouse\/common-law partner must have\u00a0valid permission to stay\u00a0in Canada, either as a worker, student, or visitor.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Offshore Spousal\/Common-Law Sponsorship<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This sponsorship program allows permanent resident of Canada or Canadian citizen to sponsor his\/her spouse or common law partner for permanent resident status in Canada, irrelevant of where the spouse or common law partner is currently staying.<\/p>\n<p>There are two parts to the spousal sponsorship application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Canadian or permanent resident applies\u00a0to sponsor his or her spouse or common-law partner; and<\/li>\n<li>The spouse or common-law partner applies\u00a0for permanent residence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0Offshore sponsorship\u00a0\u00a0is generally chosen\u00a0when the sponsored\u00a0individual is living outside Canada.
